London, beyond the hotel

From St James’s to Shoreditch, the places where London is simply itself: a dining room from 1742, a hidden greenhouse and an architect’s house untouched since 1837.

    Wiltons

Oysters, fish and game since 1742, in a room of velvet and wood. The Dover sole is filleted at the table.

Tip · Best at lunch. There is a dress code: no shorts or sportswear, and a jacket is advised. Closed Sunday.

Tomos Parry cooks over wood, Basque-style, on the first floor of an old pub, and holds a Michelin star. The whole grilled turbot, for sharing, is the reason to book.

Tip · Book six to eight weeks ahead for Friday or Saturday and pre-order the turbot.

A family perfumer since 1730, in the same Jermyn Street shop and now run by the ninth generation. At the back, a small museum of early bottles and house ledgers.

Tip · For something singular, the bespoke perfume service: several consultations and a bottle with your initials.
